Pedal Car Olympics

National Scout Pedal Car Olympics
11-13th January 2008
Thriftwood Scout Activity Centre

This year a record 100 teams entered the fourth annual pedal car Olympics at Thriftwood. 83 junior teams for Scouts and Guides and 17 senior teams of Explorer Scouts and Young Leaders.

8 different disciplines make up the event; sprint, individual tack, endurance, blind driving pairs, pursuit, sled pull, driving skills, and team relay. The event also included artificial ice speed climbing. Various on site activities ran throughout the weekend. Evening entertainment was provided by a disco and many inflatables.

The winners of the junior section were the 17th Barking & Dagenham Scouts ‘Roadrunners’. It is interesting to observe that none of the team members for the first two place teams came first, second, or third in any of the individual events. This truly shows the worth of working as a team. Note – every participant gets at least one point for completing a section, even if they come last, the winner may get 280 points.

Winners of the Senior section were the Gladiator ESU A Team.

The all female team with the most points were the 1st Upminster Guides ‘Muddy Marshmallows’
